Posted to the Web Jan 19, 18:07

Addis Ababa, Ethiopian Airlines is working to strengthen its presence in Europe and is now focusing on the German market, traveldaily.com reported.

According to the website, AVIAREPS German based company and Ethiopian, Africa’s largest airline recently signed a new GSA agreement starting on 1 April 2010.

AVIAREPS was founded in Germany in 1994 with the aim of meeting the growing demands of the aviation and tourism representation market.

The world’s leading aviation and tourism management expert will then be in charge of all sales, marketing and ticketing activities in Germany.

Besides, the European markets of Austria, Belgium, Switzerland and Hungary AVIAREPS also represents the Ethiopian flag carrier in the South American markets of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru and Venezuela.

Ethiopian currently offers four weekly flights between Frankfurt (Germany) and Addis Ababa (Ethiopia): each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, passengers can use a nonstop connection to the Ethiopian capital.

On Sunday the airline provides an additional flight with a short stopover in Rome. As from June 2010 Ethiopian will increase the frequency to five weekly flights on this route.

From Ethiopian’s hub they can conveniently connect to various African destinations such as Johannesburg, Nairobi, Mombasa, Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar, it said.

As Africa’s leading carrier Ethiopian operates its flights with the newest and youngest fleet consisting of 30 Boeing aircrafts, the report indicated.

Within the next years the fleet will continue growing. The airline has already ordered five Boeing B777-300LRs, eight Bombardier Q400s (delivery in 2010), 12 Airbus A330-900s and 10 Boeing B787 Dream liner jets.

Ethiopian, the largest airline in Africa, based in Addis Ababa and offers flights to 21 international destinations in Europe, Middle East and Asia and North America and 35 destinations in Africa.

The website further indicated that the Ethiopian flag carrier serves 16 domestic routes.

Last week, the Ethiopian and ASKY airline has launched operation officially at Lome, capital of Togo , as per their five-year-long management contract they signed.

ASKY airline, Africa’s newest international airline, is established with 120 million USD by African investors, regional economic blocs, African banks and the Ethiopian, which has 25 percent share.
