Jijiga, – Chief Administrator of the Somali State, Dawd Mohammed Ali, said the Ethiopian Pastoralists’ Day (EPD) has a special place as it ensured the democratic and development benefits of pastoralists.
Dawd made the remark in connection with the 12th Ethiopian Pastoralist Day due to be marked in Jijiga town on Monday at a national level.
He said the pastoralists and semi-pastoralists community benefited much from the country’s ongoing good governance, democratization and socio-economic endeavors.
According to Dawd, pastoralists have suffered from a long history of political, economic, and socio-cultural marginalization during the past regime.
He said the government is executing encouraging development activities so as to improve the livelihood of the pastoral community.
Basin development and construction of potable water facilities will be given prime attention in order to address problems that arise due to shortage of rain, he indicated.
The day will be marked through symposium and panel discussion, among others. More than 200 model pastoralists and development agents who performed well will be awarded on the occasion.
